Dermarolling Lips for Fuller, Plumper Lips

Dermarolling Lips for Fuller, Plumper Lips

Dermarolling lips can give you fuller and more plumped lips. Having full and pouty lips has become hype for most women today. When Kylie Jenner made her lips full, it became an inspiration for many that it already became fashionable in the beauty trend. To achieve full and plumped lips, techniques have been introduced by a lot of makeup artists. Some women who would like to make it permanent go for lip fillers or by getting a lip augmentation. These days, there is another way to get it done- by dermarolling lips without spending a lot.

Dermarolling is a form of microneedling in which you use a beauty tool called derma roller. A derma roller is full of microneedles, hundreds or thousands of them, that you roll onto your skin and creates mini punctures or wounds. These punctures will signal the body to start a healing process by producing collagen. Collagen is very important to keep our youthful glow and as we age, its production decreases. By using a derma roller regularly, you can heal different kinds of skin imperfections like acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots and skin discoloration, cellulites and stretch marks, hair loss, loose or sagging skin- and now to add on the list, dermarolling lips can give you fuller and plumper effect.

In Michelle Phan’s video called 5 Ways to Plump Your Lipsshe shared her useful tips on how you can get a plumped and fuller effect by dermarolling lips. Here are the best safety tips when using a derma roller for your lips:

Tip #1Always sanitize.

The first major step before you start dermarolling your lips is to disinfect and clean your derma roller. You do this by soaking it in a disinfectant alcohol for about 5-10 minutes. By doing this, you can get rid of any infection and germs to get in contact with your skin while rolling the derma roller. You also clean the handles of the roller by wiping it with a cloth wet with alcohol. Do not use a facial tissue so the fibers won’t get into the microneedles.

Tip #2Cleanse your face and hands.

Even if you are just dermarolling your lips, you better cleanse your whole face because you will have to wait for a few hours (or overnight) before you can wet your face after derma rolling. Gently cleanse your lips with a mild or hydrating cleanser.

Tip #3. Use a lip care product.

After dermarolling your lips, put on a serum, moisturizer or a collagen cream on your lips to avoid drying or flaking. It would also relax your lips and give you a fresh plumped look when you wake up the next morning. Put a little sunscreen cream or gels that are suitable for lips, or any lip-enhancing cream or balms for added protection like petroleum jelly or essential oils.

How to Dermaroll Your Lips Safely

Following the right technique is the best way to dermaroll your lips safely. You need to be very gentle when using a derma roller on your lips because they are very delicate and putting on a hard pressure is highly discouraged. Always roll with caution.

First, close your lips and starting from the middle, you can divide it into 2 sections – the left section and the right section. Start with your left section, derma roll up and down 4 times, then lift the roller and do left and right 4 times, lift again followed by diagonally top right to bottom left 4 times and lastly, diagonally top left to bottom right 4 times. After doing these directions, you can do the same steps in the right section.

When and What Microneedle Size to Use in Dermarolling Lips

There are different sizes of microneedles available for your derma roller. It can range from 0.2mm to 2.0mm. When dermarolling lips, it is highly recommended to just use 0.5mm microneedles. Even Michelle Phan is also recommending the use of at least 0.5mm because it is the ideal size that can create punctures that can stimulate collagen production which is safe for your lips. The best time to do it is at night because that’s when you have an ample time to relax your lips. It is also the best possible time when you don’t have the chance to wet it. For first time users, you can begin with once a week treatment but once your skin has adjusted to it, you can do it twice a week. You have to put some day breaks after each session.

Important Reminder: When dermarolling lips, it is highly recommended to just use a 0.5mm microneedle.

Benefits of Dermarolling Lips

  • It boosts the absorption of your serums and lip care products so it becomes more effective.

Dermarolling Lips Tips

When dermarolling lips, it is important that you change your derma roller after 3-4 uses. Using them for a long time can make you prone to some infections because microneedles do not have a long lifespan. It is also your personal beauty tool and sharing it with anyone else is harmful. Never use a longer needle size more than the recommended 0.5mm as it is not safe for lips. The skin of your lips is thin and delicate and if you use longer microneedles, you can cause damage or scars if you wound it. Stick with the recommended frequency of use and do not roll when you have cold sores.

If you have a low pain tolerance, a numbing cream can be applied at least 30minutes to 1 hour before you start derma rolling. Please follow the instructions carefully and if you suffer from any skin condition like psoriasis, eczema or have had blood clotting problems, do not use a derma roller even any part of your face or body.
