Frequently Asked Questions

Have some questions? Why not take a look at some of the most frequently asked questions below to see if we have your answer.

1. What is Derma Rolling?
Derma rollering is a clinically proven therapy that can reduce appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars by naturally stimulating new collagen and elastin in your skin. It uses a derma roller with hundreds or thousands of microneedles to roll across the skin creating tiny punctures that signal the body to repair itself with new collagen and elastin. As a result, skin becomes firmer and smoother.

2. Is Derma Rolling Safe for Home Use?
Derma rolling with microneedles less than 1.5mm under guided instructions is absolutely safe for home use.

3. How do I start Dermarolling/ Microneedling?
Step 1. Clean & Disinfect Derma Roller. Firstly, clean and disinfect your derma roller using 60 - 80% alcohol. Advanced Derma Roller System comes with a disinfection chamber for you to easily and conveniently disinfect your derma roller before use.
Step 2. Clean Your Face and/or Body. Before you derma roll, cleanse your face and/or body to remove residues, dirt and makeup that can irritate the skin when the micro needles get in contact with your skin. Make sure you don’t have any active breakouts. Avoid scrubbing your skin or irritating it with exfoliants to avoid allergic reactions when derma rolling.
Step 3. Dermaroll Section by Section.
Divide the area to dermaroll into small sections like the size of a quarter of your palm. Always dermaroll section by section to completely cover every part of your skin.
Step 4. Use the 4 Directions Dermaroll Technique. Use the 4 Directions Derma Roll technique to dermaroll each section fully. For example, derma roll up and down 4 times and change to derma roll the same section left and right 4 times. Next derma roll diagonally from top right to bottom left followed by diagonally top left to bottom right. Refer to the picture below for clearer illustration. Continue to another section of your face or body and repeat the 4 Directions Derma Roll technique again until you have completed all sections.

4. Should I try derma rolling if I have sensitive skin?

Dermarolling or microneedling with needle size below 1.5mm is generally regarded as a safe skin resurfacing technique because it results in minimal damage to the skin as compared to laser skin procedures or other invasive therapies.

So derma rolling is suitable for people with sensitive skin as long as you follow the guided instructions on derma rolling and use these steps below to protect your skin after derma rolling.

Avoid direct sunlight after derma rolling for at leat 24 hours to allow time for your skin to heal completely and not be aggravated by strong UV rays.

Nourish your skin with a high quality serum containing ingredients such as Vitamin C or hyaluronic acid to aid the healing process. In addition, microneedling also helps to boost the absorption of skincare products within the first 24 hours of derma rolling.

Allow more time in between dermarolling sessions. Depending on the speed at which your skin heals, you may require a longer resting period in between dermarolling sessions to allow your skin to completely heal. Signs that demonstrate that your skin is ready for the next derma rolling session are that your skin is no longer looks red and do not feel tender to touch.

5. Can I dermaroll if I have Rosacea?

A current research done at the Department of Dermatology at Seoul National University in South Korea has shown that fractional microneedling radiofrequency therapy (FMR) has resulted in a clinically significant improvement in resolving inflammation and appearance of Rosacea. 21 patients (20 females and 1 male) suffering from mild to moderate Rosacea were treated with two sessions of FMR, four weeks apart and then assessed at 4, 8 and 12 weeks after their second session. The authors were able to observe 20% clinical improvements in 81% of the subjects (17 out of 21 patients) in week 12.

Although derma rolling is still a relatively new therapy for treating Rosacea, the promising results from the above study lends a firm foundation to the use of derma rolling as a technique to treat rosacea. If you have any doubts, you may always consult your dermatologist for professional advice.

6. Is dermarolling effective for wrinkles and fine lines?

Dermarolling creates miniscule punctures to the skin which stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin by your body's own natural way. The newly generated collagen move towards the surface of the skin and acts like fillers to "fill up" the dents on our skin created by fine lines and wrinkles. With consistent dermarolling, wver time, facial lines and wrinkles will gradually be reduced and in exchange, firm, rejuvenated and smooth skin will appear.

7. Is dermarolling effective for acne scars?

Derma rolling stimulates the production of new collagen that can deliver big improvements in the skin’s texture and fade the acne scars over time. It is more gentle and with low-risk since it does not destroy the skin’s top layer to stimulate healing process. As with most non-invasive therapies, significant improvements in acne scars can be seen with continued derma rolling of at least 4 - 6 sessions.

8. Is dermarolling effective for stretch marks?

A stretch mark is a tear in the collagen layer of the dermis that occurs whenever the skin is stretched beyond its tensile limits. They are usually formed as a result of rapid weight gain or loss such as during pregnancy or extreme weight loss or gain.

Dermarolling breaks up the damaged skin cells and stimulates the deeper layer of the skin to generate new collagen and elastin. The new collagen migrates to the surface of the skin and with repeated treatments will gradually fade away the stretch marks, leaving smooth, healthy skin.

Since stretch marks occurs in the deeper layer of the skin, it is recommended to use dermar rollers with microneedles of at least 1.0mm in order to effectively reach the damaged cells. The Rejuviss Advanced Derma Roller System comes with a 1.0mm derma stamp that you can use to target stretch marks in different area of your body.

Derma rolling together with the use of a skin serum can work wonders for stretch marks. The tiny channels created by dermarolling serve as pathways for skincare products to penetrate deeper layers of the skin. This not only bring more of the skincare products into deeper layers of the skin, it also allows the skincare products to reach deeper layers by up to 3000%. Recommended skin serums are products with Vitamin C, Vitamin E and/or Hyaluronic acid to aid in the repair process.

9. Is dermarolling painful?

The answer is it depends on the length of the microneedle that you are using and the area of the face or body you intend to treat.

Dermarollers with microneedles 0.5mm and below are unlikely to cause pain and are safe for home use. Dermaroller with microneedles above 0.5mm to 1.0mm may cause slight pain and you may consider using numbing cream prior to your treatment to aid in the discomfort.

The thickness of your skin differs in different body area. The thinner the skin, the more sensitive it could be and vice versa. For example, derma rolling with a 0.5mm microneedle on your cheeks can create stronger sensation than rolling the same microneedles on your thighs.

To minimize pain but still effectively treat your skin while dermarolling, choose microneedles of about 0.5mm for all areas of your face and body.

10. How long does it take to see results after dermarolling?

Dermarolling harnesses our body's own natural way to heal and repair our skin by stimulating new collagen and elastin production. Everyone's body is different and the time it takes to see results from derma rolling will differ from person to person.

As a general guide, if you have been consistently following a schedule for derma rolling, you can see results as fast as after the 2nd session. It also depends on the type of skin problems you are working on. For example, a shallow scar will take less time to lighten as compared to a deep scar.

The key to successful derma rolling is consistency and continuity. Stick to a schedule and monitor your skin condition by taking photos before and after treatment to assess the positive effects of derma rolling.
