How To Dermaroll Safely At Home

If you have been wondering how to dermaroll safely at home, rest assured that derma rolling is today’s effective and gentler way of removing skin imperfections.

It uses a derma roller with hundreds or thousands of microneedles to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating the production of new collagen.

When the microneedles are rolled across the skin, it creates tiny punctures that signal the body to repair itself, allowing the production of new collagen and elastin. As a result, skin becomes smoother, more elastic and renewed!

Many people are switching to this treatment because of how this simple beauty tool can reverse their age and rejuvenate their skin.

It can repair almost any type of skin damage and problems such as acne reduction and scarring, fine lines/wrinkles and crow’s feet, loose and sagging skin, hair loss, hyperpigmentation due to sun damage, and reduces stretch marks and cellulite.

What’s best is, you can dermaroll safely at home.

Techniques to Dermaroll Safely At Home

Is Dermarolling really safe to do at home? The answer is a BIG YES!

By carefully following these techniques, you’re on your way to a great skin.

Here’s how to do it safely:

1. Sanitize and clean your derma roller.
You must sanitize your derma roller by soaking it for 5-10 minutes using a disinfectant alcohol. Clean the handles by wiping them using a wet cloth or with alcohol wipes.

2. Decide on the areas of your face or body that you would like to derma roll & choose the derma roller size accordingly.
Derma rollers comes in different needle length and also different number of needles per roller to suit different parts of your face & body.

2A. Derma roller needle length:

The longer the needle length, the deeper the needles can reach into deeper layers of your skin, therefore treating more severe scars or stretch marks.

  • For acne scars and fine lines, use needle of 0.25 – 0.5 mm.
  • For deep scars, cellulite and stretch marks, use needle length of 0.5 – 1.5 mm.

For very deep scars, you will need needle length of above 1.5 mm.

Treatments with derma rollers of needle length longer than 1.5 mm is recommended to be performed by professionally trained practitioner.

2B. Number of derma roller needles:

The number of needles in your derma roller helps to tackle different parts of your face and body.

For areas around your eyes and lips, choose to use a thin derma roller with about 200 – 250 needles so that you can easily maneuver the roller around these corners.

For other parts of your face, you can choose between 500 – 600 needles to effectively cover your face area.

And for your body, since there is a larger surface area to cover, choose a derma roller that has more needles such as 1200 needles.

Derma Rolling Tip!
Dermaroll at night time so that your face & body can get the proper rest and recovery it needs while you sleep! You will notice a different kind of healthy glow on your skin the next morning!

3. Divide your face or body into small sections.

Before you start dermarolling, divide the area for derma-rolling into small sections of about a quarter of your palm size. It is always recommended to derma roll section by section to fully cover the desired area to be treated.

Below you can see how we divided our face into 7 major sections for derma rolling, section by section. Complete rolling one section using 4-directions derma rolling technique (more information below) before moving on to the next section. This will ensure that you have sufficiently covered all areas of your face & body.

4. Use the 4-direction technique.

For each section, complete dermarolling in 4 different directions consecutively as shown in the diagram below.

First you will derma roll up and down 4 times, followed by left and right 4 times, followed by diagonally top right to bottom left 4 times and lastly diagonally top left to bottom right 4 times. After that, you can move on to another section and repeat the same steps.

Derma Rolling Tip!
Do not dermaroll on active acne. Always allow it to heal before you start to derma roll so that you do not aggravate the wound.

5. Be careful in the eye area!

If you want to target wrinkles in your eye area, it is better to look for a small derma roller to avoid hurting or damaging that delicate part.

The Rejuviss 5-in-1 Derma Roller System has a roller with 240 Microneedles (0.5 mm) designed to be used for hard to reach areas such as on the eyes to reduce fine lines and crow’s feet.

6Always use the same pressure.
When rolling the derma roller, the pressure must not be too light or too hard. Do not push deeply onto the skin. Do not drag it when you change into another direction.

Derma Rolling Tip!
For safety reasons, do not use microneedle size of 1.5 mm and above at home if you have not consulted your dermatologist.

How often should you derma roll?

For beginners, we recommend derma rolling once every 2 weeks for the first 2 sessions so that your skin can get used to the treatment. After that, we recommend derma rolling once a week for the best results.

Choose a fixed day of the week for your treatment so that you can remember it easily.

For experienced users, we recommend derma rolling 1 to 2 times a week depending on the area of your face or body that you want to treat.

Your skin needs time to heal & generate new collagen, therefore, always allow a few days of rest in between treatment for your skin to repair itself.

Is it advisable to use a Numbing Cream when using a Derma Roller at home?

Derma rolling can be a bit painful to some people who have a low pain tolerance. A microneedle with a length of above 1.0 mm may leave some pinpoint bleeding when they touch the dermis and can cause discomfort.

Depending on skin’s thickness or sensitivity, most people can tolerate the pricks of the microneedles. If you have a low pain tolerance, you can use a numbing cream that can help alleviate pain so can you go through the whole session of derma rolling without the feeling of being tortured.

BLT cream is a potent numbing cream that contains the mixture of the topical anaesthetics Betacaine, Lidocaine, and Tetracaine.

It should be applied 1 hour BEFORE derma rolling. This is how you apply the numbing cream:

First, put on a thin layer all over the face.

Next, let it stay for 30mins to 1 hour depending on the product’s instruction.

Lastly, wipe off the excess cream before you start dermarolling.

Here’s a simple checklist to help you start or continue your derma rolling treatment:

☑ Are you using Quality Dermaroller?

☑ Are you changing the Dermaroller head from time to time?

☑ Are you NOT sharing your Dermaroller with anyone?

You do not need to buy a very expensive Dermaroller to make sure that it works. All you need to do is to get a brand that offers a great quality. Since your face is (of course priceless) already in need of a solution, you don’t want to add another injury to it by choosing a low-quality product that can create more damage on your skin.

You can trust that our Rejuviss 5-in-1 Derma Roller Systemcan make wonders to your problematic skin. It is a complete set that comes with 4 different roller heads for your face and body.

  • 12 Microneedles (1.00 mm) – to be used on face to reduce all kinds of scars. This is best for acne scars and treatment of deep stubborn scars.
