Best Derma Roller for Hair Growth

Is your hair thinning?

In this article, we will talk about the best derma roller for hair growth so you can learn some simple and affordable steps to induce hair growth in the comfort of your home.

If you are experiencing hair loss, your scalp may be unhealthy. Your scalp is your head’s skin, and just like any other skin in the body, proper care should be given.

These are signs of unhealthy scalp:

  • excessive oil found in scalp and oily hair
  • dry scalp that causes itchiness
  • dandruff and severe flaking that falls from your head
  • irritated scalp that shows redness and sometimes painful
  • thinning of hair due to excessing hair fall and hair loss.

Minoxidil is one of the topical treatment for hair growth however it needs to be done regularly and continuously if you want a lasting effect.

Nowadays, many dermatologists are using dermaroller for hair growth therapy for the treatment of scalp and hair loss.

A dermaroller is a tool that uses a roller wheel full of microneedles (about hundreds or thousands of them) to stimulate new collagen and elastin production in resolving multiple skin problems caused by skin aging.

As we age, our collagen supply is gradually decreasing, and many skin imperfections may surface out.

Dermarolling has helped a lot of people in resolving their skin problems such as: hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne and shallow to deep scarring, age spots, loose and sagging skin, stretch marks and cellulites.

Derma rolling is also proven effective for hair loss problems. (You can check out this link to know more about How to Use Derma Roller for Hair Loss for hair loss.)

Why Choose a Derma Roller for Hair Growth?

There are many benefits of derma roller for hair growth:

1. Triggers the Human Growth Factor.
The hormone called Human Growth Factor is very essential in producing healthy hair cells.

When using a dermaroller for hair growth, it triggers the body’s natural healing process to produce this hormone.

This is how it works: when the dermaroller is rolled onto your scalp’s surface, it will create minor surface wounds or micro channels that would signal the body to work and produce new tissues of skin.

It stimulates the circulation of blood to the scalp and as a result of this blood flow, it stimulates your hair follicles to grow new hair over time.

The new hair growths are usually even thicker and smoother.

2Makes your treatment product more potent.
One great benefit of dermarolling is its ability to boost the absorption of treatment products products.

If you are using a treatment product like Minoxidil for hair loss, it will be more effective because the formula can be absorbed through the deep layers of your skin when you apply it after using a derma roller.

3. Promotes healthy skin.
As mentioned, your scalp is also a skin.

Using a derma roller stimulates the production of collagen. Collagen is an important protein needed for maintaining a beautiful and healthy skin. It makes our skin elastic.

With regular use, you will get a healthy scalp, stronger hair, and can eliminate problems like hair thinning, hair fall, and dandruff.

4It is safe and affordable.
Unlike other treatments, a derma roller can be safely and conveniently used as a home treatment.

It is not expensive compared to derma clinic services. If you will follow the instructions carefully on how to do it when treating your scalp problems, you will be able to see results quickly.

5. Long lasting effect.
The results of dermaroller on hair growth can be permanent. Unlike other treatments, you’ll stop seeing results when you stop it.

By using a dermaroller, it stimulates the closed hair follicles to open up again so you’ll get new hair growths; and by keeping a good dermarolling habit, you’ll get a new set of hair naturally that’s stronger and healthier. A strong and healthy hair last long.

How to Use Dermaroller For Hair Loss

To get the most out of your dermarolling therapy, it is IMPORTANT to follow these directions when using a derma roller for scalp:

  1. Sanitize your derma roller by soaking the roller head into an isopropyl or disinfectant alcohol. You must leave it there for 5 to 10minutes.
  2. Cleanse your scalp thoroughly with a mild cleanser to avoid infection when the skin gets in contact with the micro needles. You should have a slightly wet or damp hair to avoid knotting with the roller. If your scalp is inflamed, irritated or wounded, derma rolling is not advisable until it is healed.
  3. Apply a topical product (optional) If you are going to use a hair growth product, you can do it 2 ways. You can apply it before you start rolling, or just simply apply after the session for better absorption. Rub the mixture that is specifically formulated to boost hair growth in the area you want to treat or have treated.
  4. Make small sections. Before you start dermarolling, divide the area into small sections of about a quarter of your palm size. It is always recommended to derma roll section by section to fully cover the desired area to be treated.
  5. Use the 4-direction technique. For each section, complete dermarolling in 4 different directions as shown in the diagram below. Then, derma roll up and down 4 times, followed by left and right 4 times, followed by diagonally top right to bottom left 4 times and lastly diagonally top left to bottom right 4 times. After that, you can move on to another section and do the same steps.

6. Sanitize AGAIN and clean your derma roller. You must sanitize your derma roller by soaking it for 5-10minutes using a disinfectant alcohol, let it air dry, and keep in the storage box.

What’s the Recommended Size of Derma Roller for Scalp?

The highly recommended size of microneedle to be used safely for hair loss treatment is the 0.5 mm – 1.0 mm derma roller. The derma roller 0.5 mm for hair loss has been reported to be effective for mild to moderate hair loss cases.

It is recommended to derma roll once a week for best results.

We do not recommend microneedle sizes of 1.5mm and above because they are not applicable for home use and only trained professionals are allowed to do so due to safety reasons. Longer sizes of microneedles can damage your scalp if not administered properly.

How Soon Can I See Results?

The result varies from person to person. You can get results in as early as 4 to 8 weeks for hair growth. For scalp treatment, results are visible in as early as 2 weeks.

Important Reminders AFTER Scalp Treatment:

  • Avoid washing the treated area right away. Allow the skin to recover after dermarolling. This is to avoid inflammation and to allow healing after creating some trauma to the skin during the pricking or rolling. Wait for at least 12 hours before washing it.
  • Avoid scrubbing your scalp. Scrubbing your scalp will lead to irritation and swelling. After treatment, use a mild shampoo the next day and for the meantime, do away with hair treatments like haircolor because it will damage your skin due to harmful chemicals.
  • Avoid sun exposure. Your scalp will be more sensitive to sun rays so please avoid too much exposure. If possible, you can use an SPF mist before going out, or use an umbrella for protection. Avoid direct sunlight especially during noon time.

Safety Precautions when Using Derma Roller for Scalp

  1. NEVER share your derma roller. One user, one derma roller. To avoid infection, never share it with anyone.
  2. Replace your derma rollers after 4-5 uses. For better results, change your derma rollers frequently because they have a short life span. This will avoid infection and contamination to skin.
  3. No over-rolling. You do not need to repeat rolling after the first round as soon as you finish the whole area to be treated. When you roll aggressively and too much, the collagen can be broken down instead of forming and regenerating new tissues.
  4. Do not use broken microneedles. Carefully examine you derma roller before using it. If you see rusts, bended or broken microneedles, please throw it away and use a new one.
  5. Not for inflamed and wounded scalp.  Never use a derma roller for open wounds. You have to refer to your dermatologist if you have this condition.

With all these guidelines mentioned, you can use dermaroller for hair growth. Please bear in mind that this treatment can do wonders if you commit to following the instructions carefully and without excessive use because if you do so, it will create more harm than good to your skin.

Also, if you do not see results, you must check your lifestyle to see why such condition is aggravating. Stress and poor diet can make the condition worse so keep everything at bay and have a healthy lifestyle.
