Does At Home Microneedling Work

Are you thinking of microneedling at home and yet unsure if it will work for you?

Does at home microneedling work the same as those you can avail from the clinics?

Many people are now strong believers of derma rolling because it works and is a low-risk, non-invasive treatment for skin imperfections.

In this article, we will cover pertinent information about the safety of home microneedling.

What is Microneedling/ Derma Rolling?

Microneedling or Derma Rolling is a clinically proven effective treatment for many skin problems. Its healing power to cure shallow and deep scars made it very popular and sought-after by people & famous celebrities who wish to get their healthy skin back.

If you have an orange peel skin– one with large open pores, dimpled texture or with scarring; some other imperfections like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, or stretch marks- then you are a good candidate for trying this treatment.

If you are a person with the above-mentioned skin condition, you have definitely tried a few products to cure and fix the problem. Derma rolling is the best choice because it boosts the production of collagen that can make your skin regain its elasticity and beauty.

As you go on reading, we will explain the advantages of microneedling.

Is Home Microneedling Safe?

Microneedling can be done in a skin clinic or at home. When dermarolling at home, a derma roller is used.

The recommended size for home derma-rolling is one between 0.5mm to 1.5mm, depending on the skin condition to be treated. And it requires consistency to get the desired results.

  1. Always sanitize your derma rollers before and after using them.
Non-sterile needles can cause infection or spread of bacteria, so it is important to properly clean them by soaking it for 5-10minutes in a disinfectant alcohol or antiseptics made especially for derma rollers and other beauty devices.
  2. Use only the recommended size for home use.
Never use anything longer than 1.5mm when dermarolling at home.
  3. Dermaroll with caution and follow the recommended frequency.
Do not roll forcibly or more than the required session per interval.

We recommend to dermaroll once a week for the best results.

If you are a beginner, you can start with derma rolling once every 2 weeks for the first 2 sessions to allow your skin to get used to derma rolling before changing to once a week schedule.
  4. Avoid active acnes.
Never use a derma roll over your inflamed skin or active pimples/acnes. You need to allow them to heal and subside before dermarolling.

You can still treat the area of your skin with scars when you have active pimples by using a slim head derma roller to maneuver around the active acne.

Rejuviss 5-in-1 Derma Roller System consist of 4 separate derma rollers to suit all your needs. You can choose the 240 microneedle derma roller to continue to derma roll your scars while treating your active acne. This way, you will have faster results for your scars!

How Does Microneedling Work?

At-home microneedling works by stimulating the production of new collagen whenever the dermaroller is rolled onto the skin’s surface.

As we reach our mid-20s, the collagen production in our bodies is not as abundant as when we were young. It starts to dramatically decline especially when we reach our 30s.

Collagen is very important to achieve a healthy and glowing skin. Elastin is another protein in the body that works together with collagen to make our skin elastic and resilient.

When you use a derma roller treatment, these two proteins are stimulated. It works by creating small punctures to the skin once the needles are rolled. The punctures then signal the body that a repair must be done immediately, producing new collagen and elastin, thus producing soft tissues and aids in the repair.

Does Microneedling At Home Work?

YES! Microneedling is an effective and efficient home beauty treatment to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin that would aid in scars reduction and treatment of different signs of skin aging.

Moreover, this treatment can boost the absorption of skincare products.

It allows them to penetrate into the deep layers of your skin to make it more potent and be fully absorbed particularly when you apply it within an hour after your dermarolling.

Microneedling works the same way as skin resurfacing (laser treatment) does; which is used to target the outer layer of your skin while triggering the lower layers to promote collagen production.

Derma rolling does the same because the derma roller works in the outer layer (skin surface), causing triggers (collagen and elastin stimulation) to work on the deep layers.

This process, in turn, would treat shallow and deep acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles and signs of aging, as well as stretch marks.

As a result, you get tighter, smoother, softer, and rejuvenated skin.

Benefits of Microneedling/Derma Rolling

You will be amazed to know how derma rolling can cure a lot of skin imperfections.

Here are the major benefits of it:

It corrects and heals the following skin conditions:

  • Shallow and Deep Acne Scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Age Spots
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Loose/Sagging Skin
  • Hair Loss
  • Stretch Marks
  • Cellulite

It is Economical and Practical.
Not everyone can afford laser , chemical peels or resurfacing treatment in the clinics. They are very expensive and will also need a few sessions to see results depending on the skin type and severity of the problem.

A derma roller set will not cause you hundreds of dollars and can be re-used for up to 4-6 sessions. Maintenance is not expensive, and you can use it along with your favorite skincare line.

It is Convenient and Home Based.

You don’t need to set up an appointment with your skin clinic because you can do it at your most convenient time at your own phase, at your own place!

You can stop worrying about any down time because your skin gets back to normal after a few hours of rolling. If you do it before you sleep, you will wake up with a healthy glow!

How Often Can You Do Microneedling At Home?

When microneedling at home, whether you have a mild or severe skin problem, you have to follow the recommended ONCE A WEEK schedule.

If you are a beginner, you can try derma rolling once every 2 weeks for the first 2 sessions to let your skin get used to derma rolling. After that, continue derma rolling once every week on the same day each week.

How Should You Dermaroll for Best Effects?

Dermarolling becomes more effective when you do the following:

  1. Do gentle rolling by applying the same pressure in all parts.
  2. Pay more attention to the areas near the eyes. Use a derma roller with narrow head that is suitable for sensitive areas like eyes and lips.
  3. Use the 4-Direction Technique.
For each section, complete dermarolling in 4 different directions as shown in the diagram below. Start by derma rolling up and down 4 times, followed by left and right 4 times, followed by diagonally top right to bottom left 4 times and lastly diagonally top left to bottom right 4 times. After that, you can move on to another section and do the same steps.
  4. Use a serum after your derma roller session. The serum includes powerful antioxidants and vitamins that can penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin. Highly recommended is one with Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is best for orange-peel skin because it can hydrate and plump the skin.
  5. Replace your derma rollers after 4 – 6 uses. It is advised to change the Dermarollers to ensure that the microneedles are sharp for optimum results. Due to the continuous movement of the micro-needles on the surface of our skin, they won’t be as sharp as it used to be when brand new.
